Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on macOS: Intune Deployment, Onboarding and Validation

hace 4 días
1 min de lectura

This 92-slide CloudTestLab walkthrough documents an existing Microsoft Defender for Endpoint deployment on LAB-MAC-01, managed through Microsoft Intune. It follows application delivery and onboarding profiles through local protection health, a completed antivirus quick scan and fresh telemetry in Microsoft Defender.

The Mac uses Intune Direct Enrollment without user affinity and Platform SSO. The separate MacMDM and macOS entries in Microsoft Entra represent the same machine through these enrollment and identity workflows.

What this lab covers

Application assignment and installation; tenant onboarding; system extensions, network filtering and Full Disk Access; background services, notifications and Microsoft AutoUpdate; antivirus, network and tamper protection; and verification of the configured /var/logs exclusion.

Validation results and boundaries

The local agent reports healthy protection and current definitions. The quick scan completed with 6,136 files scanned and zero threats detected, with a corresponding completion event in the device Timeline. However, the portal Overview still shows Inactive and historical antivirus health values. Sensor collection and impaired-communications recommendations remain unresolved. These observations are retained as a validation gap.

Zero antivirus detections do not mean zero vulnerabilities: the captured portal also lists software inventory and exposure findings. Controlled malware detection, blocking and response-action tests were not performed. DLP permissions do not establish functional DLP protection.
